Perspectives on Governance,
Assurance, and Trustworthy Data.
Working perspectives from nearly four decades of federal and defense governance practice. Written for the people who have to implement this work, not for search engines.
The Opening Series
Three Pieces That Lay Out the Position
Three pieces that lay out the GiaMetrics position: what governance actually is, how it connects to the frameworks organizations are required to satisfy, and why trustworthy data is the precondition for decisions worth defending.
Governance Is the Foundation
Governance is not a compliance exercise. It is the organizational infrastructure that establishes accountability, manages risk, supports sound decisions, and enables sustainable operations. This piece makes the case for treating governance as the thing that comes first, and examines what it supports across business operations, cybersecurity, compliance, risk, and data.
Governance Is Not Compliance
The two words are used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. Compliance is the demonstration that specific external requirements have been satisfied. Governance is the structure that makes the demonstration possible and repeatable. This piece works through the relationship between governance and CMMC, RMF, FedRAMP, NIST, and internal organizational requirements, and what changes when an organization stops running parallel compliance programs and starts mapping them to one structural base.
Trustworthy Decisions Begin with Trustworthy Data
Discovery establishes what data exists. Understanding establishes what it means, who owns it, and what it is fit to support. This piece works through ownership, lineage, provenance, and stewardship as the preconditions for any decision worth defending, and touches on AI as one important future use rather than the centerpiece.

Get in Touch →The Underlying Position
Governance Is the Foundation. Assurance Is the Proof.
Everything published here proceeds from the same structure: mission drives governance, governance establishes the disciplines, the disciplines get expressed through whichever frameworks apply, and the result is decisions an organization can defend.
Applied across cybersecurity, CMMC, RMF, FedRAMP, data governance, AI, and broader business operations.
